Day 2
Psalm 27:1. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Oh What a beautiful morning. A light breeze is coming across as we rest here from our first burst of energy. Bags were filled with the food purchased last night - rice, beans, etc. Then we were off to the bodega to bring out boxes of clothing for distribution too. It was nice to see the boxes all labelled by age groups and types. 0-6 mes, 6-12 anos, sabanas... The first barrio we will visit on Monday afternoon, El Pastillo, we will distribute clothing and food that we
packaged up today.
Yesterday, we sorted and organized ourselves, checking the bodega for items to use and washing pillowcase bags up to use for delivering items. Then we delivered the sewing machines and tables to the church that we will teach at this week.
Back to Sunday morning now. When Pastor Cecilio returned, we went over to see where the new church and feeding station will go (behind our property). This is a wonderful opportunity for us to grow the ministries. The land was donated to PAN. The land seems to be just perfect. There were some ideas of where the church, parking and feeding station should go. I am sure it will all get laid on paper very soon.
Around 2pm, Karen came in with another gentleman from the fire department. There was some equipment donated two years ago through a retired firefighter and it is now getting placed in the right hands. Sometimes it takes time to get items to the best place they can be used.
So we followed them out the gates as we were off to our first church service for 3pm at the church we will be working at this week, Iglesia Tabernaculo Oasis de Esperanza. This means Oasis of Hope. It is a fair size with shiny tile floors, a raised Dias and two offices at the back with the sound room in between. The sound system was impressive as was the sound board itself. Drums, guitars, keyboard on one side of the platform and on the other side were 3 microphones for the singers. The main worship leader/singer was on the main floor in front. It wasn’t until the pastor came up that he went up on the dias. A lovely service, lots of singing, and the sermon was translated by our own Samuel. We returned to the compound about 5:30ishpm. Yes the service was 2 hours.
So supper was ready when we returned and we enjoyed a lovely chicken soup with vegetables and rice on the side and the chicken legs sticking out of the soup. Very nice. The rest of the evening was spent tidying up details for tomorrow and final preparations. My crochet sack of yarn, needles and such is all ready to go.
So I will say buenos nochos and a manana. Below is a picture of our team out back surveying the new property.
Love Suzie
